Best Nightlife -(Live Music)
Aladdin Theatre and Performance Center
(Nightlife - Live Music)
3017 SE Milwaukie AvePortland OR 97202 503-233-1994
Description:
Vaudeville venue, cinema house, porno theater in former lives, the Aladdin has been all of these. Now, however, it's perhaps one of Portland's best smaller venues for live music, namely folk, pop, acoustic, jazz, country and ethnic. Great acoustics and a concentration on music (rather than on selling drinks or overbooking seats) go far to recommend the place. Patrons know that performers are certain to give incredible shows; many musicians specifically request to play the Aladdin due to its reputation and accommodating attitude. Representative performers include Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Allison Krauss, James McMurtry and Michelle Shocked.
Berbati's Pan
(Nightlife - Live Music)
231 SW AnkenyPortland OR 97204-2706 503-248-4579
Description:
OLD TOWN. This Portland institution has its hands in a lot of different pots. While it's a fabulous Greek restaurant, it also features a game room (in the old Church of Elvis location) and a cafe and functions as a popular music venue and nightclub. The busy spot attracts all kinds of people, in part because of the variety of entertainment available. Local and national bands take to the stage each night and play music ranging from alternative and classic rock to big band and acid jazz. You'll also find dancing, regular poetry slams, DJs spinning in the restaurant and a fetish night that invites patrons to dress in their most outrageous garb. Definitely a one-stop extravaganza!
Dante's
(Nightlife - Live Music)
1 SW 3rd AvePortland OR 97204 503-226-6630
Description:
This dark, moody club offers lush environs and a fascinating line-up of events. If you want to drink, that's easily taken care of, and there's even food for late-night noshing. Depending on the night you attend, you may find karaoke, live music performances (often rock or heavy metal), vaudeville and comedy shows, and an adult cabaret/burlesque that features strippers and fire dancers. The offerings may not be to everyone's tastes, but the place has developed quite a following nevertheless.
Doug Fir Lounge
(Nightlife - Live Music)
830 E Burnside StPortland OR 97214-1221 503-231-9663
Description:
Located below the Doug Fir Restaurant, the Doug Fir Lounge is a hip live music spot that's got a dedicated following who show up to listen to the mix of regional and national musicians booked to play. An outstanding food and cocktail menu is available, compliments of the Doug Fir Restaurant and Bar. Although shows have different time, generally doors open at 8pm, with shows beginning at 9pm; call for specific dates, times and shows.
Dublin Pub
(Nightlife - Live Music)
6821 Beaverton Hillsdale HwyPortland OR 97225 503-297-2889
Description:
Although the Dublin doesn't serve hard liquor, you'll never miss it with the pub's amazing array of draught beers (not to mention its wines). This Irish-themed establishment has more than 80 varieties available, and microbrews from local and international breweries are well-represented. Each night, musicians play live, and you're likely to hear Irish tunes along with classic rock and more. Food includes traditional pub standards like burgers, sandwiches, and fish and chips. If you want to do more than sample the beverages and listen to the music, you'll also find darts, pool and foosball to keep you occupied.
